My week so far...

Its almost the weekend folks, yay. Bring on my lounging in the sun and applying sun cream with my spatula..that I've not bothered taking it back into the kitchen. It now lives in my bathroom.

Not sure if I'd mentioned that I start work at 8am out here. InitiallyI thought this was going to be a challenge ('problem' isn't a word the yanks like...everything's a challenge!) but I surprised myself with how easily I found the 6.30 alarm each morning! That was the first week, when my adrenelin must have been flowing or something because this week has not gone so smoothly. On Wednesday morning, I woke to my sister calling me about an Amazon order she was placing...I was disorientated  but not immediately concerned as she's up early with three kids, one a new born. I fooled myself she might have just been eager to discuss said Amazon order at 6.15 on a morning..so when I casually asked what time it was I wasn't expecting her answer. 8.30am!! That's 30 minutes after I'm supposed to be at my desk beavering away!

I flipped out, totally panicking. My sister did not help...instead of providing a sense of calm and resolution, she instead thew out comments like 'Oh fuck....what the fuck, oh no, this is really embarrassing', 'how did you manage that' all the while I'm screaming 'HELP" at her. (note to self...do not call sister if there's a dead body to be dealt with!)
For those that have slept in before, 30 mins after work starts is a tricky one to deal with. Gone are all the excuses that might have occurred on the commute, because you'd have called that in an hour before...I was in murky waters! I decided to bring someone in on the loop...a work colleague. I called her and said I'd left my laptop at home and had come back for it, I was mortified etc...please cover for me. Luckily she'd done the same thing a couple of times before so was totally happy to cover my arse. So that was extremely hairy.

This morning my sis kindly called me at 7am to make sure I was awake and then said she wanted to kill herself (one of the results of being raised by Annie Raworth, a neurotic appreciation for sleep!) when I explained that I didn't actually need to be up until 7.30 as I was going straight to a meeting. I told her not to worry, I'd easily drift back off until then...and boy was I right. 8.15 I woke up!! what the hell? This time I managed to make the meeting on time but I can't say I'm not a little concerned...I will have to buy a secondary alarm this weekend!

Have to share..

Hey...so I just have to share this little gem before I officially bid farewell to the weekend and hit the sack. I went shopping this afternoon...bought some lovely bits from Anthropologie and a cool furniture shop called Z Galleries...but that's another story. Over here the assistants ask your name when you go into the changing room, and then they say "Great, my name is Stacey, shout me if you need anything" and then they come past and say.."How is everything going George?"

Except it hasn't yet gone down like that for me...in Nordstrom's last weekend they woman was calling me Donna? And today...in Anthropolgie, I gave my name as George..as always. I came out the cubicle at one point to take a look in the bigger communal mirror and noticed they write your name on the door on a little white board type thing...and there on my door...was 'Geoff'. Talk me through that!

This song is playing on the radio, I love it. Thoughts? The line that resonates is 'She says you're a rambling man, you ain't never gonna change, you got a gypsy soul to blame and you were born for leaving'

The Eagle has landed!

Howdie! So I've been here for just over a week. In that time I have truly surprised myself with how productive I have been. I have....bought and made (ok, had two guys come and make) a bed. A huge one. I've set up gas and electricity, and installed internet...on my own! I've been and registered for my social security number and almost...almost got myself a car. No phone yet though..well I do have a prepaid one that I'm sinking substantial funds into...me, and all the othe drug dealers and prostitutes in San D!

I arrived last Wednesday evening. It was really quite weird being in my new apartment, with no furniture and really nothing around me that felt mine. I love it though. Its a great pad, lovely oak flooring and a fab balcony that I've already made ample use of. Speaking of which, I did some sun bathing over the weekend, eager to take my ghostly shade of pale up a notch. I've identified a problem with solo tanning. I can't reach every spot on my back. I didn't realise I'd missed a spot until it was too late. I have a rather unpleasant red square located centrally between the shoulder blades. And boy did it give me hell. I had the more horrific burning itch on my first day in the office and was writhing around like a lunatic trying to relieve the pain. I had to make an emergency trip to the pharmacy and get some aloe vera for the situation...which I had to apply with a spatula I'd bought from Ikea the week before!! Sad times my friends.

As if that wasn't enough to make me feel ALONE, my only form of seating is a TWO man camping chair. Its two separate chairs joined together with a little drinks holder type thing. So in the evenings I plonk myself down on the balcony with a glass of wine and occasionally glance to my left at the empty chair next to me..I'm sure you can guess who I imagine to be in that chair!

I'd love to start posting some snaps up on to the blog and I had taken some great pics when I was in Asia recently, but at present I have no way to upload them. I will get on it soon I promise.

San Diego is gorgeous. I still can't believe I'm not on holiday, its definitely not sunk in yet. My neighbourhood is great, the road I live on is very quiet and wide but only a few streets away is a very cool area of bars and restaurants and I'm only a 'couple of blocks' away from Balboa Park, which I endeavour to check out this weekend.
The only thing is, like anytime I've moved somewhere new, I feel a little left out of the action. I know it's going on out there but I'm not part of it..yet! I wish I had my friends here because I know we'd have such a ball.

This weekend I'm going up to Carlsbad to hang out with my sister and the boys at the beach. Eli is a week old and utterly perfect. He sleeps a lot but I went to go and get him the other night when he'd woken up and he's just so tiny and soft. Such a cutey.

On another note, what did you all think of what Kate wore to her wedding. The Moss. You know I'm a huge fan.

No other major news this side. I have checked out some local Yoga places, and there are an abundance. I plan on getting involved. I had lunch at a place called The Cheesecake Factory today, an enormous chicken, bacon and avo club followed by my dream cake combo....Carrot Cake and Cheesecake. Who knew? Amazing in a 'I can't believe I've just eaten that, I want to be sick' kind of way.
